This qualification focuses on direct chair-side work and support during a range of dental treatments. It encompasses the underpinning ethics, professionalism, teamwork and communication required to work as a Dental Nurse. Methods of teaching will include direct teaching, small and large group work and independent research, demonstration of practical skills in our mock surgery as well as placement in the real work environment.All work is assessed against grade boundaries. This includes projects, assignments, external assessments, 2 final online assessments and work based experience. All learners are required to undertake substantial work placement that forms a mandatory and graded part of the qualification. This requires a 16 hour placement a week.Completion of this qualification will enable learners to register with the General Dental Council and find employment as a Dental Nurse. Learners may then progress to qualifications in the following areas -Dental sedation -Dental radiography -Dental technology -Oral health education -Special care dental nursing -Orthodontic nursing -Dental practice management With additional entry requirements Dental Nursing can lead to other career pathways including Dental Therapist, Dental Hygienist, Orthodontic Therapist, Laboratory Technician, Senior Nurse, Practice Manager, Lecturer and Teacher and Assessor of Dental Students.
