This is an eight week practical course for learners who have attended at least one previous silversmithing course at Landau Forte College; covering the workshop induction including health and safety procedures regarding the equipment, tools and materials used in the workshop. The aim of this course is to extend your previous knowledge of jewellery making. There will be the opportunity to work on Individual negotiated projects to develop your own ideas or work on a set project given by the tutor as desired. There will be the chance to learn stone setting and other more advanced techniques alongside investigating a design concept or particular technique further. A technical record will be required covering all the methods used to produce your pieces of jewellery. Support material such as tool suppliers will be given via DerbyLearn and in the workshop. Design development will be encouraged alongside awareness of historical and contemporary practice. This course is for Intermediate and advanced learners wishing to develop their own jewellery practice. You will need to bring an Apron to protect clothes, hair ties for long hair, goggles and sturdy footwear. Also a notebook pen and pencil. The following tools if you already have them: Steel ruler and compass. Pliers, needle files, tin snips and end cutters. Learners will mainly provide their own materials for this course.
