Working in small groups and on individual tasks with support from a tutor and learning assistant as required, the course enables women to develop an understanding of domesticabuse and its effects on women and their children. Learners are able to assess their own personal safety and make safety plans. It also considers some of the excuses made by perpetrators of domestic violence and the wider social and cultural issues surrounding domestic abuse, as well as recognising early indicators of abusive behaviour in personal relationships. At the end of the course learners will put together a portfolio of their work, which is then assessed and graded for either level 2 or 3 accreditation with CERTA (formerly the Open College Network)
