Soft Furnishings And Sewing Skills How will this course help me? This is a practical course in which learners will develop skills and confidence to produce professionally finished soft furnishings for the home and/or garment making Who is the course for? Beginners to the subject and those with some experience. Learners are given the support they require for their individual development. What can I expect to Learn? Sourcing of suitable materials Accurate preparation and measuring for an individual project Development of a variety of hand and machine sewing techniques Safe practice in this subject area. Topic covered may include: Curtains Pelmets Cushions Blinds Bed linen. Garment Making and/or alterations How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. You tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Learners will need to provide their own fabrics. Costs will vary according to the items made. Beginners will usually start with a small item to learn the basic skills. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning.
