English for Improvers How will this course help me? The course is designed to help you improve your skills, increase your confidence and gain a functional skills qualification. Who is the course for? This is a course for people who wish to improve their English and may wish to move on to GCSE English in the future. What can I expect to Learn? Reading – a range of texts including poetry, short stories, newspaper articles Writing – different formats including letter writing, essays, report writing Spelling Punctuation Grammar Speaking and listening activities. How will I learn? The course is classroom based and will be a mix of taught sessions, small and whole group work. There will also be individual work. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. If you think that you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the centre staff. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Bring along a pen or pencil and paper. A small dictionary may also be useful. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) The course and any exam taken is FREE. What can I do next? You may want to come on some of our other courses such as English GCSE.
