Certificate for Children and Young People’s Workforce Level 2 Who is the course for? For people who work with children from 0-19 years (and their families) in settings or services, e.g. crèches, extended schools, nannies, Children’s Centres, child minders’ own home, pre-schools/playgroups, services in and around extended schools, social care/residential carers. Learners are also required to have a minimum of 5 hours per week in placement in a setting (this may be in employment or a in a voluntary role). What can I expect to learn? How to communicate with children and professionals. An understanding of child development, how to carry out child observations and plan for a child’s next steps. The importance of equality and diversity within your setting. All aspects of health and safety and the importance of carrying out risk assessments. Signs of child abuse and what to do if you suspect a safeguarding concern. Roles and responsibilities of all the other professionals that may also work with children. How will I learn? Through research and then demonstrating this within your practice. Group discussion within the class, putting this into practice. Shadowing colleagues within your setting. Tutor taught sessions How will I know how well I am doing? Regular feedback will be given from both the tutor and the assessor. Assessor will give you feedback on your practice. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? Yes, at least 5 hours a week, this could be researching or reading relevant articles within childcare. Writing up work from your placement and work set from class sessions. What will I need to provide? Learners will need to bring: their original DBS (CRB) form a pen, paper and A4 ring binder a completed additional information form a placement reference form You will also have to attend a Childcare information session
