Students will explore the similarities and differences between the works and lives of two key European artists Matisse and Picasso. Classes will broken down thematically, meaning a focus on ideas such as the female body, the still life, colour, patronage, primitivism and orientalism. Students will be encouraged to look at examples of their art to explore what informed their works in terms of personal relationships, the social and cultural contexts they were created, and current trends in art at the time.
