Whilst Yeovil presents a rather benign geological picture (Ham Hill excepted), the surrounding areas are of outstanding interest; not least the Jurassic coast, but also the Quantocks, Cheddar, Dartmoor and Exmoor. The aim of this introductory course is to explore many of these areas, to understand the mechanisms involved and to recognise how geological processes have impacted the landscape. It is a fascinating narrative of forensic scientific interest, of immense forces operating over huge chasms of time and of strong personalities defining this relatively new science. A course for anyone interested in both Earth Sciences and the beauty of our local landscape.
