Revisiting our Past

UPDATED 20160822 12:21:14

The theme of this course is the recreation, revisiting and “consumption” of the past. Local history will play a prominent part as we all “wallow” in nostalgia especially for the 1950s and 1960s and examine the way in which we regard the past, our past. Is history really “just one damn' thing after another” or is there some meaning to it ? Would we really like to return to the past ? Can it really be recreated and re-enacted ? What is “our heritage”? How genuine are our memories of our past ? The methods employed will include segmented powerpoint presentations and discussion of the themes identified, as well as the usual class interaction.
