Glittering Prizes. Nobel, Pulitzer, Costa, Booker.... Are literary prizes a barometer of contemporary taste and achievement or a publicity compromise by assorted 'judges'? We will read and discuss a selection of approximately eight prizewinners, to include: Voices from Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexeivitch and Every Man for Himself by Beryl Bainbridge. We will then consider whether they fulfil the desired criteria.
