This course will explore the relationship between ancient Egypt and its southern neighbour. We trace the subjugation of Nubia in the Middle Kingdom followed by the emergence of the local Kerma culture, the re-conquest in the New Kingdom and the turning of the tables in the first millennium when the 'Black Pharaohs' from Nubia who conquered Egypt and ruled as the 25th Dynasty. Alongside the history we explore a range of Theban Tombs especially those with a Nubian connection.
