Further Mathematics: This is a good option for mathematically able students offering 2 A levels in Maths. It can provide a strong basis for applying to the top universities and gives a sound foundation for students wanting to go on to university to study Mathematics or for any subject which uses Maths including Physics, Engineering, Economics and Computing. Students studying this course must show a high level of commitment towards Mathematics. On this course you learn both Pure Maths (which includes algebra, calculus, trigonometry and geometry) and Applied Maths. Pure Maths (the “Core” modules) gives you the tools needed for solving problems, while the Applied Maths allows you to use these in real world contexts. What you learn in Maths can be used in many other subjects. Statistics units are a useful support in Biology, Social Sciences or Business and Finance, whilst Mechanics units are a very useful support in Physics or for continuing on to Engineering degrees.
