The foundation degree is aimed at existing early years practitioners, working or volunteering in a wide variety of settings. It has been designed to meet the requirements of Every Child Matters: Change for Children, and early years professionals who work with children from birth to age eight. Learning on the course will be a combination of college sessions, workplace practice and independent study. At level 4, topics you will study relate to children's development and learning, principles of play and learning, safeguarding, the rights of the child, multi.agency working and developing parent partnerships. At level 5, you will explore issues relating to current educational and legislative practice and be involved in independent research. You will consider international perspectives of learning and historical theories of childhood. There will also be a focus on supporting children with special educational needs.
