LASER Access to Higher Education Diploma - Social Sciences

This course aims to equip learners wishing to study at Level 3 and gain the necessary qualification for entry to Higher Education. If you are aspiring to study a politics; or psychology degree; or wish to pursue a career in social work or as a probation officer then this course is suitable for you. If this is your first Level 3 qualification; you may be entitled to some fee remissions. If you're aged 24 or over and take out a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to fund your Access to HE Diploma; then go on to successfully complete your degree or subsequent higher education course; the Government will write off the loan that covered your Access course. However; if you fail to complete the course; you will still be liable to pay the full course fees. A deposit will be required at the start of the course if you are applying for a loan; but this will be returned when your loan is finalised.

Within each unit there are a host of assessment methods including: oral presentation, report writing, essays and short answer questions. The minimum requirement, consistent across the pathways is 60 credits at Level 3. Assignments consisting of 45 credits will be studied at Level 3 and graded at pass, merit or distinction. Entry requirements

All learners are expected to purchase their own stationery. Lists of recommended texts for each subject including the mandatory components of the course are provided. There are some copies of each title recommended in the Learning Centre. Learners are also encouraged to apply for support funding in order to purchase books.
