This dynamic hands-on course is ideal for school leavers and mature students who are looking for a career in the technical theatre and production side of the entertainment industry. This includes theatre; clubs; cruise ships; holiday centres and public performance events. Our aim is to make the course as industry relevant as possible; so that students get really involved in the design; planning and operation of lighting; sound; stage management; set design and construction; and scenic painting. Core to the course is the understanding and practical application of Health and Safety; Risk Assessment and the legal aspects of public performance. As well as allowing you to acquire new and valuable skills; the course has strong connections with local theatres and theatre companies and regularly assists them in aspects of theatre productions. Over the past 3 years our students have been involved with productions at the Nuffield Theatre; the Point at Eastleigh; Chichester Festival Theatre; the New Theatre Royal; the Kings Theatre; Rock Challenge; Portsmouth and the Theatre Royal; Winchester. In addition; students have the opportunity to work on public performance; such as Son et Lumiere; live concert sound and lighting; festivals; conferences; and public events. By forging such strong local links; our students are often offered employment in their chosen area at the end of the course; although some choose to continue their studies on our HNC in Technical Theatre and Stage Management. Students have gained places ay a range of University and specialist higher education establishments such as RADA; the Royal Welsh Academy of Music and Drama; Central School of Speech and Drama; and the Rose Bruford College.
