What is the BTEC L3 Diploma Health & Social - Dual course about? If you are thinking of a career related to the Health & Social Care sector, including the justice sector, then the BTEC National Diploma is ideal for you. BTEC courses have an excellent reputation going back 25 years and the BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels. There is also the opportunity to take additional AS/A2 subjects alongside the Diploma as these may be needed for certain professions or higher education courses. A key aspect of the course is work experience with 200 hours being divided across the course; this gives you opportunity to experience three different settings and to apply your knowledge and understanding to real work scenarios. Many of the HE courses leading into Health & Social Care professions require you to provide evidence that you have relevant work experience. In addition to work experience you will develop the skills of reflection and action planning, which are used by practitioners throughout their working lives. What will I study? Name: BTEC L3 Diploma Health & Social - Dual Qualification title: Diploma in Health and Social Care (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the Applied General qualifications. It includes a range of assessment types and styles. The three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of are: external, internal and synoptic. External Assessment Each external assessment for is linked to a specific unit of study. All of the units developed for external assessment allow you to demonstrate breadth and depth of achievement. Each assessment is taken under specified conditions, then marked by Pearson and a grade awarded. Students must achieve all external units at pass grade or above. The styles of external assessment used for qualifications in the Health and Social Care suite are: Examinations – all students take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a written outcome Set tasks – students take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task. Some external assessments include a period of preparation using set information. External assessments are available twice a year and students can have only one resit attempt during the programme. Internal Assessment Internally-assessed units are assessed through assignments. This ensures that you are assessed using a variety of styles to help you develop a broad range of transferable skills. You could be given opportunities to: Write up the findings of your own research Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations Carry out projects for which you have choice over the direction and outcomes Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate work-based values and practices. Synoptic Assessment Synoptic assessment requires you to demonstrate that you can identify and use effectively, in an integrated way, an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge relevant to a key task. These tasks provide opportunities for deep learning where you are able to make connections among units and select areas of interest for detailed study and apply your learning in realistic contexts using scenarios and realistic activities.
