Clinical Healthcare Support workers work in a variety of healthcare settings depending upon their role including a specific hospital department, a community clinic or health centre, patients' homes, care homes or a GP clinic. This 18-24 month Apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge required to become competent in supporting Health Professionals to provide clinical healthcare. You are employed as clinical healthcare support workers/healthcare assistants providing patient care in a range of settings. Mandatory Units •Engage in personal development •Promote communication •Promote equality and inclusion •Promote and implement health and safety •Principles of safeguarding and protection •Promote person centred approaches •The role of the health and social care worker •Promote good practice in handling information •The Principles of infection prevention and control •Causes and spread of infection •Cleaning, decontamination and waste management •Principles for implementing duty of care Optional units could include •Dementia •Mental well-being and mental health promotion •Undertake tissue viability risk assessments •Undertake stoma care •Carry out personal hygiene for individuals unable to care for themselves •Undertake treatments and dressings of lesions and wounds and wound drainage care •Remove wound closure materials •Insert and secure nasogastric tubes and care for individuals •Prepare for and carry out extended feeding techniques •Undertake physiological measurements •Perform intravenous cannulation •Carry out intravenous infusion •Perform routine electrocardiograph (ECG) procedures •Obtain and test capillary and venous blood samples •Remove wound drains •Obtain a client history •Contribute to effective multidisciplinary team working •Support individuals in their day to day life and work in partnership with their family
