In today's accountancy and finance marketplace, professional qualifications provide a benchmark of competency, showing commitment to the industry and to professional development and performance. This framework provides a structured approach to training and developing prospective accountants who understand the needs of the organisation, its customers and the sector. To achieve this qualification, a minimum of 37 credits must be achieved from the following: Accounts preparation •Understand accounting principles and concepts, double entry bookkeeping, accounting methods used to record non-current assets •Account for the purchase of non-current assets, for depreciation, for the disposal of non-current assets, for adjustments •Prepare and extend the trial balance Prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships •Understand the need for and the process •Prepare accounting records from incomplete information •Produce final accounts •Understand the legislative and accounting requirements •Prepare a statement of profit or loss appropriation account and financial position Costs and revenues •Understand the nature and role of costing systems •Record and analyse cost information •Apportion costs according to organisational requirements •Analyse deviations from budget •Be able to use information to assist decision-making Professional ethics •Understand principles of ethical working and behaviour and when and how to take action following any suspected breach •Understand the ethical responsibility of the finance professional in promoting sustainability Indirect tax •Understand VAT regulations and penalities •Complete VAT returns •Communicate VAT information Spreadsheet software •Use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other data •Select and use appropriate formulas and data analysis tools to present, and format and publish information
