Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Mechanics - Intermediate

Vehicle technicians, mechanics and electricians accept calls for help and repair and service the mechanical parts and electrical/electronic circuitry and components of cars, lorries, buses, motorcycles and other motor vehicles, and repair and service car air-conditioning systems. Other jobs include car and car part sales and working for a vehicle leasing company. You will study the following mandatory units: •Competency in health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment •Competency in supporting job roles in the automotive environment •Knowledge of materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices •Competency in routine light vehicle maintenance •Knowledge of light vehicle engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling system units and components •Knowledge of light vehicle fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units and components •Competency in removing and replacing light vehicle engine units and components •Competency in removing and replacing light vehicle electrical units and components •Competency in removing and replacing light vehicle chassis units and components •Knowledge of removing and replacing light vehicle transmission and driveline units and components. You will study a selection of the following optional units: •Competency in identifying and agreeing motor vehicle customer service needs •Competency in inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods •Competency in overhauling light vehicle engine mechanical units •Competency in overhauling light vehicle Transmission units •Competency in overhauling light vehicle steering and suspension units •Competency in removing and replacing light vehicle driveline units and components •Competency in removing and fitting basic light vehicle mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components and non permanently fixed vehicle body panels
