Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare Support - Intermediate

Clinical Healthcare Support workers work in a variety of healthcare settings depending upon their role including a specific hospital department, a community clinic or health centre, patients' homes, care homes or a GP clinic. This 14 month Apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge required to become competent in supporting Health Professionals to provide clinical healthcare. Apprentices are employed as clinical healthcare support workers/healthcare assistants and work alongside Health Professionals providing patient care in a range of settings. They work in clinical services such as medical, surgical, outpatients, community and A&E and are involved in looking after the well-being and comfort of patients. Mandatory Units •Introduction to personal development •Introduction to communication •Introduction to duty of care •Introduction to equality and inclusion •The role of the health and social care worker •Contribute to health and safety •The principles of infection prevention and control •Promote good practice in handling information. Optional Units •Dementia awareness •Understand mental health problems •Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment •Prepare and support individuals for healthcare activities •Monitor and maintain the environment and resources during and after clinical/therapeutic activities •Obtain and test specimens from individuals •Provide support to manage pain and discomfort •Provide support for therapy sessions •Undertake agreed pressure area care •Move and position individuals in accordance with their plan of care •Assist in the administration of medication •Support individuals who are distressed •Support individuals to meet personal care needs •Assist the practitioner to carry out health care activities •Support individuals to eat and drink •Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation.
