Looking at different genres, for example crime, fantasy, horror etc. students will have a chance to write a variety of styles and take a step out of their comfort zones. What makes fantasy fantastical or grounded with a bit of magic? How can we differ in crime fiction and make it unique? How can you scare a person when there are so many horror and graphic images/ news stories in the media? All of this will be revealed in Writing Fiction. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of different styles and themes of writing, including crossover fiction. Students will research current trends, discuss their writing in a workshop group and help others improve their work. Students will also be encouraged to attend literary festivals/ author events.
