An introduction to the visual arts of America, from portraiture, patriotic history painting and Romantic landscapes to the emergence after WW2 of New York as the centre of the art world. This course will include formal analysis and study of influences, technique and narrative. Sessions will be varied and interactive with extensive use of projected images, video, music, books and internet and learners will be encouraged to contribute to the sessions through discussion, group work, sharing experiences and reviews of exhibitions
