This course introduces beginners to the use of clay and further develops the use of this medium for those with previous experience. Topics may include: exploring a range of tools, preparing clay for use, using moulds, experimenting with techniques such as coiling and slabbing, using the wheel and hand-building techniques. You will also mix and apply various slips and glazes. You will learn about the history of pottery and look at work from contemporary potters as inspiration. You will also be advised on the safe use of materials within the pottery department and how to keep the working areas and tools clean. .
