Certificate in Education (Cert.Ed.) In-Service Lifelong Learning

UPDATED 20160804 10:41:34

This course leads to a professional qualification if you are already teaching in Further Education Colleges, Adult Education, Higher Education or a wide range of other training and educational settings outside the schools sector. Please note that the course does not confer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for those working or intending to work in schools, although currently it is possible for people with QTLS to obtain work as a qualified teacher in schools. You should normally be in paid employment, as a teacher or trainer, for a minimum of 100 hours (at least 50 hours in any one year) at a recognised training or educational establishment. Voluntary teaching/training may be acceptable in some circumstances. You should also have HNC, CGLI Advanced, the NVQ Level 3/4, or professional qualifications and significant work experience in the area you teach (where appropriate to the subject field). If you hold a basic teaching qualification (such as DTLLS Part One) or have substantial knowledge and experience of teaching you may be able to make a claim for accreditation of prior learning. Nationally, current trainees include people with a broad range of expertise gained in many sectors and all subject areas. You are required to identify a work-based mentor who can support you in your subject specialism. Attendance is on 12 Saturdays throughout the year (2016 - Sep 17th & 24th, Oct 15th, Nov 12th, Dec 10th, 2017 - Jan 7th, Feb 4th, Mar 11th, Apr 1st & 29th, May 6th & 20th) with a visit one evening in September to the library at The University of Huddersfield. Admission is through attendance at a 2 hour workshop, held on various dates throughout the year and a one-to-one interview with a member of the team. If you are interested in learning more about the Cert. Ed, please call 01274 327327 to book on to a free information evening. Alternatively, email enrolments@shipley.ac.uk
