E796 - This Level 1 Diploma is suitable for students ages 16 to 18 seeking employment in Construction or Civil Engineering, working in either Highway or Construction. This course is an alternative to studying a conventional construction trade and is an all-round practical theoretical course. This is a full time course which runs 3 days a week for 36 weeks. The course covers a range of building subjects including: Knowledge of Information of Quantities and Communication with others Knowledge of Building Methods and Construction Technology Carrying out Safe Working Practices Cutting Construction Materials Knowledge of laying Construction related Materials Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Employer Roles and Responsibility To achieve this qualification the learners must complete all 12 mandatory units. The course is assessed through multiple choice examinations, practical assignments and task based assessment. Successful learners will be able to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering. This prepares the learner for further learning or training and further develops knowledge and skills in this subject area. This programme is aimed at people wanting to work in either the Highway Maintenance sectors or in the Building Service Industry for private companies or local authorities.
