If you want to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way and at the same time gain skills, then a qualification in Health and Social Care is the route for you. This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working with adults in health and social care environments. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures. The QCF allows you to build up credits which are made up of a number of units that have a stated aim. Each unit is made up from learning outcomes and each learning outcome is linked to a number of assessment criteria. Each of the assessments criteria must be completed successfully for a learner to achieve the unit. Each unit has a level and credit value. You must take nine mandatory units. You then have a choice of optional knowledge and competence units covering different areas of Health and Social Care such as supporting person centred approaches, advocacy, health care, supporting those with disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia. Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in Health and Social care, or they may follow specialist pathways in Dementia Care or Learning Disabilities. Barnsley College Corporation (often referred to as the Board, or Governing Body) is an independent Further Education (FE) Corporation, established under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 (the Act). The Board of Governors comprises a maximum of 18 members from a range of backgrounds, drawn from the community that the college serves.
