These qualifications have been designed to help learners understand the skills and knowledge needed to work in the sport and active leisure sector. Learners will be encouraged to participate in a wide range of sport and active leisure activities. Through participation they will be required to demonstrate their ability to prepare for the activity, teamwork, time management, and health and safety. The programme consists of a combination of lectures, practical activities, oral presentations, tutorials, individual research and group work. In addition to general class work, you will be expected to use a range of textbooks for research purposes, as well as the IT facilities in the Learning Resource Centre. You will also have the opportunity to take part in coaching awards and a wide range of sport enrichment activities. Course content will include: Exercise, Health and Lifestyle Practical Sport Sports Coaching Fitness Testing Sports Injuries Athletes Lifestyle Fitness Instructing This course will give an excellent insight into different aspects of the sport and leisure industry. The qualification is designed to offer you the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding which will prepare you for entry into employment within this sector. Successful completion of this programme can provide an excellent stepping stone to the Level 4/5 Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Sport or to an alternative Higher Education pathway.

Name: SPORT NCFE LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE Qualification title: Certificate in Sport (QCF) Qualification type: Other regulated/accredited qualification Assessment For the Level 3 Certificate assessment will occur continually throughout the programme. You will have unit assignments to complete and will be assessed on your practical and coaching ability. You will also have time-constrained assignments, as well as oral presentations. For the NVQ qualification assessment is covered via observation in the workplace and through demonstration of knowledge relating to working practices. Entry requirements

All Sport and Public Services students will be expected to wear a Barnsley Sports Academy (BSA) hooded top* and polo shirt*, along with dark tracksuit bottoms and sports trainers. During practical sessions, kit will consist of a Barnsley Sports Academy t-shirt*, dark shorts and sports trainers. Non-regulation clothing/footwear is not permitted. Students will also require ring-binders, writing materials, paper/stationery and core textbooks. Barnsley Sports Academy clothing marked with an asterisk(*) can be purchased from the Sports Academy reception.
