Site carpentry and joinery focus on the installation of the joinery components, and on the setting out and fabrication of timber elements used in construction This course provides a general understanding of theory and develops the practical skills needed to work as a carpenter or joiner. This includes hanging doors, fixing architrave and skirting, constructing kitchen and bathroom units and setting out and fixing roofs You will study the following mandatory units: •Health, safety and welfare in construction •Principles of building construction, information and communication •Carry out first fix flooring and roofing •Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs •Carry out second fixing operations •Carry out carpentry maintenance •Set up and operate a circular saw •You will complete 60 hours of work placement which will give you valuable work place experience. •A full tutorial programme to improve your employability skills and support you through your course. Successful completion of this Level 2 study programme could lead to progressing to the Level 3 apprenticeship. English and maths qualifications are a requirement for most jobs and it is important that you are able to demonstrate your ability in these areas. If you do not already have a grade C or above in GCSE English and maths you will automatically undertake further study in these subjects as part of your study programme.
