If you’re interested in a career with lots of variety that allows you to work on a range of projects, then bricklaying could be the one for you! According to Goconstruct.org the construction industry is growing fast, with over 16,000 new jobs expected to be created in Yorkshire and Humberside over the next 5 years. As a bricklayer you can be part of this industry. You will learn to build everything from walls and decorative stonework to full buildings. You could also work on restoration projects, refurbishing brickwork and masonry. To become a bricklayer, you will need to be able to read plans and work in an organised way. If you enjoy doing practical things and you are interested in construction, this could be the perfect course for you. You will study the following mandatory units: Health, safety and welfare in construction. Principles of building construction, information and communication. Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers. Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures. Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures. You will complete 60 hours of work placement which will give you valuable workplace experience. A full tutorial programme to improve your employability skills and support you through your course. Successful completion of this Level 2 study programme could lead to progressing to the Level 3 Brickwork study programme. Alternatively, you could use the qualification to improve your chances of gaining an Apprenticeship which will give you valuable work experience.
