If you like making things and enjoy working with wood, this could be an ideal career for you. Carpenters and joiners make and install wooden fixtures and fittings as part of construction projects. They also undertake flooring projects such as real wood and laminate installations. The most common way to become a carpenter or joiner is through an apprenticeship scheme. To get onto a scheme, you may need GCSEs in Maths, English and science.Progression onto the Advanced Apprenticeship requires successful completion of the Construction Intermediate Apprenticeship and is dependent on your ability to complete Functional Skills at Level 2. All applicants are assessed at interview to ensure correct level of study. Prior qualifications or experience in a relevant job will be taken into consideration.
