BTEC First (Level 2) qualifications are nationally recognised vocational awards that will provide you with a solid foundation in chemistry, physics and biology. The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate & Diploma are practical, work-related courses. You will learn and be assessed by completing assignments and projects that are based on work situations, activities and demands. The units involve a considerable amount of practical work so you will develop confidence in carrying out laboratory techniques. You will also learn about employment opportunities that are available. BTEC Level 2 qualifications are equivalent to GCSEs and provide a springboard to employment or further study. The Extended Certificate is made is made up of 3 mandatory half units : -Chemistry and Our Earth -Energy and Our Universe -Biology and Our Environment To gain the level of knowledge about chemistry, physics and biology needed for further study, the following 3 optional half units are studied: -Applications of Chemical Substances -Applications of Physical Science -Health Applications of Life The Diploma requires you to study an additional three optional units, chosen to reflect the interests and career plans of the majority of students.
