Introduction to Counselling

If you are considering training to be a counsellor or would like to improve your listening and communication skills in everyday life, this course is for you. The group will consider the concept of counselling, what makes a counsellor and what attitudes and values are required. You will be introduced to the basic counselling skills of active listening, responding, questioning and summarising and an understanding of non-verbal communication. You will also explore the importance of confidentiality within a counselling context, and set out a counselling framework, leading to an understanding of the various stages of a counselling relationships. The subject areas are covered by tutor input, group discussion, working in pairs and experiential work. This course is designed as a 'taster' for anyone considering pursuing further counselling training and meets the pre-entry requirement for the Certificate in Adlerian Counselling which runs every two years at Bottisham.
