This two year course is delivered in partnership with the North West Skills Academy for Health. You will spend three days a week in College working towards the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Sciences) and two days on a clinical placement gaining valuable hands-on work experience. The BTEC National Extended Diploma provides much of the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care. The units studied are mapped to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework, which sets out how NHS staff roles are defined and developed. You will gain knowledge and understanding of a wide range of subject areas related to health sciences in practical, active and work-related situations. The clinical placements allow you to experience many healthcare professions through 11 placements in a variety of NHS wards and departments. These may include Maternity, Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Theatres, Community, Occupational Therapy and Radiotherapy. To be successful on the course you will need to be able to use communication skills to solve problems, meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a team. A commitment to studying on a full-time course is essential.
