Lip Reading - Introduction

The course aims to give you the basic skills, knowledge and ability to lipread.You will work toward the following: • Listen for the gist of short explanations • Follow single step instructions in a familiar context • Ability to recognise basic lip shapes, • Ability to recognise less visual consonants and vowel shapes • Awareness of mistakes and why they are made • Awareness of rhythm in speech • Memory, concentration and anticipation development • Ability to be assertive • Knowledge of environmental aids and loop systems Teaching and Learning activities: group and individual instruction, role-play, demonstration, discussion and pair / group work
