UPDATED 20160725 10:23:24

Our ESOL classes are for you if English is not your first language. If you are settling or living in the UK we have courses for learners of all abilities. These courses will help you to read, write, speak and understand English to help you in everyday life; for example to help your children, communicate with others or to improve your skills for work. If you want to improve your English to get a job we can help you. Our ESOL courses look at topics related to living and working in Britain. You will work on improving your speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, spelling and punctuation skills for everyday use in life and work. You will work on improving your reading skills so that by the end of the course you are able to read a variety of everyday texts for different purposes, accurately and fluently. On this course you will learn how to: • Use alphabetical order to look up words in a dictionary and other reference sources • Identify or work out the meaning of words and phrases in short straightforward texts. • Use a wider understanding of English grammar and punctuation to help you read and understand texts, including longer texts written in paragraphs • Work out the purpose of texts e.g. to persuade, inform, instruct, narrate, describe etc. • Use organisational features such as table of contents, index, or menus to find information in texts. • Skim, scan and read in detail to identify the main points or main events and key details in texts. • Use text features such as bullet points, numbers, lists, diagrams, pictures, charts and tables to help you get information from texts. • Read and understand commonly used forms such as shopping order forms, Government forms and job application forms
