Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy) Level 3 Certificate

This qualification gives learners the knowledge, integrity, competency and proficiency to perform sports massage on a range of clients who have no underlying pathological conditions. Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting or alternatively in a self-employed environment. Course Content The programme contains the following modules: 1: Anatomy and physiology for exercise 2: Principles of exercise, fitness and health 3: Anatomy and physiology for sports massage 4: Assisting soft tissue repair 5: Professional practice in sports massage 6: Assessing clients and treatment planning 7: Applying sports massage techniques 8: Providing post-treatment care Successful achievement of all eight units must be achieved for the full qualification. Students who have already achieved the appropriate sports units may be awarded accreditation of prior learning for certain units. Students may also have opportunities to gain extra qualifications to broaden their skills and fitness portfolio. Work Experience Can be arranged on a voluntary basis. Opportunities also include carrying out Sports Massages during Half/Full Marathons to gain experience. All learners will work within the College Sports Therapy Clinic to gain valuable experience of paying customers. Learning Objectives By the end of the unit you will achieve the following: 1. to enable learners to assess clients and construct a sports massage treatment plan 2. to enable learners to understand the causes and pathology of soft tissue damage 3. to enable learners to understand how to determine the appropriate treatment to support each stage of soft tissue repair 4. to enable learners to understand the application of non-sports massage modalities used to support soft tissue repair 5. to enable learners to be able to apply a range of sports massage techniques and understand their effects on the body
