This two year full-time course, run in partnership with Staffordshire University, blends the academic and practical aspects of sport development and coaching. The Foundation Degree will enable work-based learning within school, club and community-based sports provision, and considers how national sports initiatives are set within social, employment and legislative frameworks. Throughout the award you will be exposed to a wide variety of teaching methods and environments, ranging from work projects supported by industry professionals and formal lecture sessions to informal group work and peer presentations. A significant feature of the second year is the completion of a work based project where you will be using your knowledge and skills to explore and develop activities on behalf of an employer. Many students use this experience to support their job application on graduating. Additional Skills Students will be supported in gaining level 1 and 2 coaching awards in various sports alongside basic first aid and CRB checks. Career Opportunities/Progression Students who join the two year full time foundation degree in Sports Development and Coaching and achieve the appropriate high level of work will have the opportunity to progress onto the final year degree programme at Staffordshire University.
