UPDATED 20160721 10:09:12

If you are talented in Art and Design and hoping to take a Degree, HND or Foundation Degree course at University or College, then this may be the course for you. It is open to students aged 18 or over by 31st December 2013 and who have a minimum of 1 full A2 qualification or equivalent. The purpose of this course is to build on your prior experience and educate you to make informed decisions about progression to appropriate higher education in art and design. You may have a strong interest in going on to a specialist course, such as fine art, photography, fashion, textiles, design or 3D design. This Foundation Diploma covers these wide ranging studies and encourages you to explore various ways of working and thinking so that you can see where your strengths lie. Your practical work will be combined with study of contemporary and historical art and design and cultural studies. Strong emphasis is placed on drawing and gaining a sound appreciation of formal elements. There is also a programme of national and international study trips and visits to exhibitions. The course is structured in three stages. Stage One Exploratory This stage consists of short assignments covering a range of areas and enables you to explore a wide variety of materials, techniques and processes. Stage Two Pathway During this stage students are encouraged to work with increasing independence and in liaison with tutors, to propose assignments more specific to their personal interests and career ideas. Stage Three Final Major Project This stage brings together what has been learnt throughout the rest of the programme for the creation of an individual project. Here students have the opportunity to create a body of work relevant to their future progression and which culminates in an end of year exhibition. You will prepare for application to higher education courses and staff will give regular advice on preparing portfolios of work for interviews.
