UPDATED 20160721 10:09:11

The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is the UKs leading qualification and membership body for accounting staff. It has over 120,000 members in more than 90 countries worldwide. AAT have a very informative website (www.aat.org.uk) where you can find more information. The qualification is widely recognised by employers in the accounting sector. Accounting Technicians are employed as skilled accounting staff in a wide range of private and public sector organisations, as well as in accounting practices. Some AAT members are also self-employed. COURSE CONTENT The AAT qualification will help you develop the accounting skills needed in the workplace, including financial and management accounting, as well as IT skills and an understanding of professional ethics. For details of the units studied at each level, ask for a copy of the AAT Student Guide which is available at Enrolments and on the AAT website. PROGRESSION Once all 3 levels of the AAT qualification have been achieved you will be a qualified Accounting Technician and can apply for full membership of AAT as long as you can satisfy their 12 month work experience requirements. You may then consider continuing your studies to become a qualified accountant. Each of the professional institutes (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and CIPFA) accepts AAT qualified Accounting Technicians onto their programmes of study, and all offer exemptions.
