Do you have a piece of antique furniture that has, perhaps, seen better days and is in need of some careful restoration? Perhaps you would like to tackle the job yourself but feel you lack the knowledge and skills to do a really good job? If so, this course will help you to proceed with confidence! You will learn about the specialist tools needed, how to assess the scope of your particular project, how to patch missing veneer and repair broken joints and all those essential finishing jobs: cleaning, staining, colouring, waxing and polishing. The course is open to anyone from complete beginners to those with some experience wanting to further their knowledge and skills. It is mainly practical in nature with a degree of theoretical content supported by tutor demonstrations and workshop notebooks.

Advice will be given by the tutor about additional materials required as your project progresses. You should also bring with you to the first class a small item of furniture on which you wish to work, where you can discuss the materials you need with the tutor. As it is not possible to store items at the College you will need to take your work away with you after each session, so please bear in mind that it should be easy to transport.
