Pulp painting, using very finely processed plant fibres, is a relatively new but growing area of papermaking. Rich, vibrant work results from using concentrated pigments as well as naturally occurring colours of pulp which form part of the surface of the paper as it dries, rather than a separate layer. Using everything from stencils to syringes, colours can be applied boldly or intricately as wished. Because the colour is fused into the paper, it can then be overprinted or worked into with other media, bringing a whole new dimension to collage, artist's books, stationery and more.
