Experimental Machine Knitting Workshop

For knitters of all levels who want to develop their own innovative and creative machine knitted fabrics. Students learn to use a variety of experimental techniques to create their own knitted fabrics using different yarns. There is an optional project given each term, and all students are encouraged to develop their own ideas for a variety of end products.

Entry requirements

The college supplies a variety of standard gauge Brother punchcard knitting machines and a few chunky gauge machines also. We have a wide variety of yarns and more specialist materials such as wire, monofilament and solvron. Yarn winders and twisters are available for combining finer yarns to create texture and colour blends. The college also provides stitch related graph paper and a blank punchcard for designing your own stitch structure. There will be a small charge of £1.00 for extra punchcards if required. It would be helpful to bring:- Notebook Pen and pencil Small pair of scissors Beginners may find an A4 folder useful for storing handouts and reference samples. Ongoing students may wish to buy yarn for specific personal projects. The tutor will advise on this and supply a list of useful contacts at the first lesson.
