Book Arts Introduction

The 5- day course will develop your visual language from a starting point of your stories and personal interests. Initially with drawing and mark making taken into experimenting with Drypoint, Collagraph and Chine Colle Printmaking techniques. You will learn how to make simple folded paper and book structures. Find out "What is an Artists' Book?" consider how they are made, the choices of materials and the ideas and themes explored within. Supported by expert tutors Chris Christodoulou (Printmaking) and Penny Stanford (Bookbinding) who will work with you at times together and also separately sharing their specialist knowledge and experience. Finally binding your prints into your own book on the final day.

Entry requirements

Please bring: pencils, a small paintbrush and a sketchbook or notebook. Protective clothing is provided, or you can bring your own apron and rubber gloves. The course fee includes most studio consumables (ink, cleaning materials, solvents etc) but you will have to pay for paper, etching plates/ lino blocks etc. These are available to buy in the department at cost price.
