Relief Printing

An opportunity to learn all the fundamentals of relief printing. Students will be taught how to make lino print, woodcuts and wood engravings; how to transfer the design, cut a block and print a small edition. Contextual research material will help students understand and develop a distinctive personal style. . With experience, students will develop personal projects of increasing ambition, with the potential to merge digital and analogue means using laser cutters. During the term one session will be devoted to an informal evening talk and critique of students work.

Entry requirements

Please bring: pencils, a small paintbrush and a sketchbook or notebook. Protective clothing is provided, or you can bring your own apron and rubber gloves. The course fee includes most studio consumables (ink, cleaning materials, solvents etc) but you will have to pay for paper, etching plates/ lino blocks etc. These are available to buy in the department at cost price.
