Mix a range of colours, tints and shades methodically and learn the 'good practice' of laying an efficient palette. Investigate the different properties and characteristics of each colour. Study mark-making and optical effects by painting directly on to your canvas using brush and painting knife techniques. Learn how an oil medium works. Oil paint will be provided. .

Stretched primed canvas no larger than 1' x 2' (approx 30cm x 60cm). Bristle Brushes, palette and painting knife, and a basic palette:large plastic or seasoned wooden palette, or glass slab. Cass Arts and Cowling & Wilcox have several stores in London and sell reasonably priced prepared canvas and brush sets. Please note the paint on your canvas will still be wet so please either use a metal 'canvas carrier' or some other device to carry your canvas safely.
