Examine the art of portraiture, both thematically and historically, through talks, gallery visits and practical exercises. Sessions will begin with a presentation and discussion using slides, printed material, realia etc., and will segue into practical exercises using sketchbooks and/or iPads. A key aim of the course is to weave theory and practice together to give you a fully-rounded understanding of some basic principles of portraiture. You will be able to develop your own ideas for portrait projects and gain a critical awareness of the historical and theoretical context of your own work. The course is suitable for all levels of ability and no previous experience or knowledge is required. The Tutor will demonstrate the use of IPad/software as necessary, offering advice and guidance on these throughout.
