Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector Diploma Level 1

You will have the opportunity of practicing your skills in a professional salon environment. You should set aside time outside of college hours to study including on-going practice of practical skills. Learners must demonstrate at interview their commitment to self-motivated study. This HABIA and City & Guilds designed course will give you the skills you need to progress on to the Level 1 programme, or to assist in a salon. You need to find a salon to work in but the College can help you do this You will cover health and safety in the salon, establish effective working relationships, shampoo and condition hair, prepare for hair services and maintain work areas, blow dry hair and assist with hair colouring services.The beauty units you study will include assisting with day make-up and with nails. You will also develop functional skills in literacy, numeracy and IT. Tutorial support will help you to progress and develop confidence in improving your own learning and performance whilst on the course. You will be required to assist in the salon reception area and training salons and attend a salon work placement one day per week to gain experience within the industry. You must be able to purchase your own specialist equipment kit.
