This course follows the new specification GCSE English Language, which grades students from 9-1 instead of from A*-G. There will be exams in May/June 2017. The course is fast-paced in order to cover the required material to be prepared for the summer examinations. This course is suitable for adults who are aged 19+ who have completed an initial assessment and diagnostic to show that they are working at the correct level to achieve this qualification. Students will build up a range of reading and writing skills, which will be examined under test conditions in May/June. In preparing for the examinations students will be expected to read a variety of non-fiction texts, literary non-fiction and a selection of 19th Century literary extracts. In preparing for the written component of the examinations, students will be expected to write creatively, analytically and persuasively for a number of different purposes, audiences and genres/forms. The course is assessed via examination, there is no coursework component to the new GCSE course.
