Glass Fusing Workshop - Beginners

UPDATED 20160712 15:25:32

Learners will have an opportunity to experiment with different glasses and glass accessories such as confettis, frits, rods and stringers. Beginners will spend part of the first session learning how to cut glass accurately and thereafter how to fuse glass by creating small glass pieces e.g. window hanging, coasters and/or some small jewellery items such as pendants, brooches or by spending more time on making a dish NB: dishes cannot be made during Saturday workshops as there is not enough time.

Entry requirements

Wear old clothes/apron and sensible shoes (avoid wearing open shoes as glass splinters could be a problem). Bring a notepad, pen, pencil, rubber and most importantly a fine waterproof marker pen. In addition, only if you have never cut glass before bring about 1 sq. ft. of clear glass which needs to be 3 mm thick to practice on (shape is irrelevant). Old window glass or greenhouse glass (3mm thick, not thicker) are generally suitable. Make sure it is not toughened or safety glass as these will be impossible to cut! It is also a good idea to do a little research beforehand so to arrive in the classroom with potential projects or ideas to develop. All tools and materials (within a reasonable limit and for classroom use only) are included apart from the initial piece of glass to practice on.
