This is a one year intensive course leading to a GCSE English Language qualification, with the examining body AQA. The syllabus covers the following and should encourage learners:, , To read fluently, and with good understanding, a wide range of texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. This will include literature and literary non-fiction as well as writing such as reviews and journalism, To read critically and make comparison between texts, To summarise and synthesise information or ideas from texts, To use knowledge gained from wide reading to inform and improve own writing, To write effectively and coherently using Standard English appropriately, To use grammar correctly and punctuate and spell accurately, To acquire and apply a wide vocabulary, alongside a knowledge and understanding of grammatical terminology, To listen to and understand spoken language and use spoken Standard English effectively, , , The course is assessed by two 1 hour 45 min written examinations taking place in May/early June 2017 .
